This is a continuation of our ongoing highlight of phpFox version 3.

Version 3 will see its first public release tomorrow (August 31st) as v3.0.0beta1.

For past highlights of v3 be sure to check out:
Page Widgets
Your users can now create pages with v3 and on top of that they can create custom widgets for each of their pages. These widgets can be a block or a sub-section of a page.

Apps
v3 will introduce Apps, which is a new module that will open the door to 3rd party developers to easily create and maintain their apps. Similar to how apps work on sites like Facebook, each app is stored and maintained by the 3rd party developer. There is no source modifications and updating apps will be a breeze as this can be done by the developers at anytime direct on their servers. All apps will use a very simple yet secure API routine, which will give them all the information they need to build an app.

New Search Engine
Our search engine for v3 has been rebuilt to pick up a lot more relevant results and all of this in one spot. Finding friends is a breeze as users can simply start typing a friends name and a drop down will appear attempting to find the right friend for them.

Improved Privacy Settings
When adding items on the site (eg. blogs, photos, polls etc...) users can set their privacy for that item. It can be set to Everyone, Friends, Friends of Friends, Only Me or Customize. If they select Customize this allows them to select one of their custom friends list so only those set of friends can view the item. To make things easier we have also grouped all these settings in one location where it will remember the default privacy settings for a specific item.
