Description: To install mods to your site Admins need to FTP various folders and files from their PC to the remote site where their sites are hosted. FTP or File Transfer Protocol is used to transfer data from one computer to another over the Internet.

There are some wonderful FTP tools out there that are free. Some examples are: Download and install one of these, then proceed to your site's C-Panel. Go to FTP Manager / FTP Accounts / Add FTP Account. Enter your login, password, and "/site" in the Directory input box, assuming this is your site's root directory. Select "Create".

Next open your FTP tool - I will use my WS_FTP as an example. You should see a "New" button to select, which will allow you to establish settings for a new connection. You should see the following fields with input boxes for you to fill in:
  • Profile Name: {name of your site}
  • Hostname / Address: {enter your site's url here}
  • Host Type: {select UNIX (Standard) if in doubt}
  • UserID: {your FTP login created in the C-Panel}
  • Password: {your FTP login created in the C-Panel}
Select "Apply" or "OK" and you should connect.

Various tools have different methods of transferring what's on the left (local) to what's on the right (remote). This FTP tool allows the connection to be configured so that on "Connect" it goes to a certain folder locally and remotely.
